How’s it going?
I feel like I’ve been MIA lately. I’ve been BUSY. I realized I’m sticking with my 1x a month commitment to write this newsletter but barely…. I really haven’t been writing writing. You know, sit down, petal to the keys writing. Quite frankly, I’ve MISSED it.
Today, I’m going to share what I’ve been up to… but first I want to share my inspiration for this article so you can also go and check out some of his stuff because it’s great. I’m taking notes from Mr. Money Mustache. He recently shared an article where he talks about what he has been up to in the last three months that he hasn’t written a blog. So I guess I’m not as bad as him. However, I’ve felt disconnected and I’ve had A LOT of ideas. I’m warning you now… there are going to be a bunch of articles coming your way soon. I am on vacation now, in a beautiful lake setting and my creative juices are flowing.
A discussion with my Mastermind group last week helped me to realize that I miss writing and more importantly that I’m missing a key area of my life described in the book Designing Your Life as “Play.” I’ve never read this book but I intend to read it soon.
What is Play?
You know where you just do things you enjoy. When you don’t focus on work or any of those other areas. Examples of Play: vacation, reading, spending time with friends and family, outdoor activities.
Lately my brain power has mostly been focused on work. Rather than enjoy myself when I am supposed to, I start to think and stress about work. I find it difficult to dissociate from it. I think part of the issue is I’m always at work i.e., I’ve been working from home since March 2020 and now home is work.
Some of you may think that this Newsletter for me is WORK. But it is not… I LOVE to write. I don’t know what it is about the pen and paper but it has always been something I enjoy. Now… If I were to go out there and start recording videos of myself talking about all this ish… that would be cumbersome and a mental drain.
When I say work, I don’t necessarily mean my W2 job kind of work. Well, I have been doing that. I’ve been doing all this other stuff on top of it too…
The Updates:
1. WE FINALLY FINISHED OUR BASEMENT APARTMENT! (And yes I put all caps because I’m screaming and I’m flipping excited). We were spending almost every night after work in the basement doing something. This hasn’t stopped since this Winter.
This means we are one step closer to Financial Freedom. The building department issued us a TCO or a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy. We can’t get the full CO (Certificate of Occupancy) because of a fence. Yes, long story short we need a fence between our property and our neighbors per the planning board and then we can have our full CO. The fence will get installed some time in August.
I took some pics of the finished space and listed it on the market. We now have prospective tenants interested in renting from us. I did some showings and we are very close to renting it out (by the time this gets published we will have it rented). This has been something that has been weighing on me FOREVER so I am thrilled to be about done.
2.WORLD DOMINATION.. Just Kidding. I am looking for another property and I’m taking a Syndication course. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it is basically Group Investing. A group of people get together, pool their money and buy an expensive asset that no one could buy individually and then split the profits based on the percentage invested. It is more complex than that but I figured let’s keep it simple.
The market is still crazy high in our area but I’m looking for the right deal. Ideally a two family. OR potentially something bigger. Maybe I’ll do a lil mini syndication with it and get my friends and buddies to invest with me.
